In the second quarter of 2025, the top tools apps in South Africa showed varied performance across several metrics, according to data from Sensor Tower.

NordVPN – fast VPN for privacy from Nord Security saw a notable increase in weekly revenue, peaking at approximately $11.8K by the end of June. Downloads remained relatively stable, with a slight upward trend culminating in 3.5K downloads in the last week of the quarter. Active users experienced a gradual increase, reaching around 18K by the end of June.

Dogsix - Online tracker had a fluctuating quarter, with revenue peaking at $3.6K in late April before a decline to $2K by the end of June. Downloads showed a significant drop from 11.3K at the start of the quarter to just over 760 in the final week. Active users mirrored this trend, decreasing from 19.3K to about 20.5K by quarter's end.

ExpressVPN: Fast & Secure VPN reported consistent weekly revenue averaging around $7K, with a peak of $7.7K in late June. Downloads initially surged to 11.4K but dropped to 1.5K by the end of the quarter. The app's active users followed a similar pattern, starting at 28.5K and declining to 24.2K.

CT Pool experienced modest revenue growth, reaching $3.1K in the final week of June. Downloads were relatively low but showed an increase towards the quarter's end, reaching 1.3K. Active users grew steadily, ending the quarter at 2.5K.

AVG AntiVirus & Security maintained a steady revenue stream, peaking at $2.2K in late June. Downloads increased significantly, reaching 18.9K in the final week. Active users fluctuated, starting at 186K and declining to 146K by the end of the quarter.
